Often, the lifestyle, values and experiences of characters in a novel are different to our own. To fully appreciate a novel and the significance of its themes, it is important to understand the time and place in which it is set.

When & where did the events take place? What were the boys accused of? How did the community respond? What were the results of the trial? What is the significance of the boys' race? How could this be related to TKAM?
